Xmas in Melbourne
- January 22, 2023
On our first day in Melbourne we went and met our friends Eugenie, Phoebe, Bronte, and Juliet who took us to the swimming World Championships (short course) at Albert Park. The swimming was great, but the best thing was the ice-cream and sausage roll. Later we went for a swim at their pool, and that was great fun.
We also had a lot of shopping to do for Xmas, so we went to The City on the train. We had to get a Myki card so we could use the trains and trams. We split up and Dad and I went shopping together while Mum and Heidi went the other way. Later we swapped partners. Melbourne was really busy and there were more people there than in the whole of Tasmania.
On another day before Xmas we went to Springvale where Mum was meeting with one of her work friends. Dad took us shopping for the Xmas feast and we went into a lot of very smelly fish shops.
On Xmas Day we woke up early and opened our stockings. We went to the beach for a while in the morning because the dog is not allowed on the beach after 10 o’clock. We had pancakes and bacon and eggs for breakfast. For lunch we had a giant sausage roll (Beef Wellington) but I had just a roast potato and a normal sausage roll. It was great.
After that we opened our presents from under the tree. The best thing I got was an Australian Cricket t-shirt with my name on the back.
On Boxing Day we went to the Boxing Day test which was Australia against South Africa. I wore my Australia hat and Australia shirt and green and gold zinc on my face. The best thing about going to the cricket was that we got to watch the cricket in the giant stadium called the MCG. The crowd did some crazy things like Mexican waves, and we had some hot chips which were extra tasty.
On the second last day of the year (2022) we took a train to the city from Bonbeach and then we walked to the Melbourne Museum from Parliament Station. In the museum we walked around the prehistoric (Dinosaur) section where we could see lots of skeletons of dinosaurs and watched many videos about dinosaurs and The Earth changing over millions of years.
Then we walked around the section with miniatures, including operating old machines including steam engines and train engines. We could press some buttons and make the machines work properly.
After that we walked around a section where there was a lot of information and displays of Aboriginal and Torres Straights peoples’ history.
We also spent a lot of time looking at rocks (which annoys Dad, even though he actually knows a lot about rocks). Some of the rocks were very interesting and we saw meteorites and also went into a special security room where there were lots of pink diamonds (with alarmed cases).
Then we went to the shop and didn’t get anything because it was too expensive. Then we went to Fitzroy gardens in Melbourne. After we had a look around we caught a tram to Flinders Street Station and caught a train back home to Bonbeach.
One Saturday in January, while staying in Melbourne, we had something unexpected. Mum told us that WE HAD TO GO TO THE DENTIST.
We got up and did our usual morning stuff such as eating breakfast and brushing our teeth. After we had lunch and brushed our teeth in preparation for the dentist visit, it was time to go. We hopped in the car and set off. When we arrived at the dentist, we realised that we were at the indoor rock-climbing centre ! So we went inside the rock-climbing centre we were allowed to stay there for 2 hours.
We climbed ladders, ropes rocks and even did some upside-down climbing. We also climbed and crawled through some very dark tunnels, using only glow sticks for lighting.
When our time was up, Heidi and I were both knackered, and Mum and Dad had sore necks from looking up to the top of the walls when we were climbing.
We headed home happy, and both Heidi and I think that rock climbing is great fun.
